Gerardo Martinez, Owner and Chef
Influenced by the memories of his grandmother’s cooking and his mother’s teaching, Gerardo Martinez began cooking to carry on the tradition of authentic Mexican comfort food. Gerardo is proud of his family’s heritage and food that was made in regions of Mexico where his family lived. The name Vecinos means Neighbors. That’s exactly what Gerardo is bringing to Kerrville – neighborly and welcoming hospitality in the flavors of the meals he creates for the people of Kerrville. Being part of the community is important to Gerardo. Cooking has always brought him a certain joy that is found in serving others good food. He enjoys combining the flavors of chiles as they simmer into beautiful red sauces. Gerardo has been cooking for as long as he can remember. He loved cooking for others and catering parties and events, but the food trailer is the first commercial kitchen he has owned. The Kerrville community has been very supportive and encouraging, and Gerardo is looking forward to serving the people of Kerrville for a long time.
And so it begins…
It all started with selling salsa at the Kerrville Farmers Market in June of 2021. Six months later a permit was granted to begin operating a food trailer. Gerardo and his wife Michele joined forces to create Vecinos Fruteria y Cocina food trailer to serve the people of Kerrville authentic Mexican comfort food. The vision will continue based on the growth of the company which will one day turn into a small, casual restaurant. Meanwhile, the husband and wife team will work together to serve flavorful food that people enjoy. Vecinos’ small-batch salsa can still be found at The Peachy Llama in Comfort, Central Provisions in Center Point and The Ridge Cafe in Kerrville. The couple genuinely wants to get to know those they serve and hopes many will return over and over again. Vecinos means Neighbors.
