Summertime is here, and so is summer planning! If you’re mapping out a Texas road trip that will keep the whole family entertained and cooled off from the summer heat, look no further than Kerrville! From a happening arts scene to craft beverages and peaceful gardens, eclectic treasures, live music, and Western art, you can craft your own summer itinerary with every visit to our Hill Country town.

FIND INNER PEACE AT THE COMING KING SCULPTURE AND PRAYER GARDEN
Right off the highway, you’ll come across one of the more majestic attractions in Kerrville: the Coming King Sculpture and Prayer Garden. The garden is over 24 acres of tranquil paths through manicured greenery. While its flagship piece is the Coming King Sculpture, the gardens are also filled with many striking and highly detailed biblical sculptures.

EXPLORE THE RIVERSIDE NATURE CENTER
Another great place to relax and enjoy the gorgeous summer weather is the Riverside Nature Center. At this non-profit arboretum and nature sanctuary, you can expect to find walking paths, butterfly gardens, a wildlife meadow, urban wildlife, and more. By following the walking paths, you’ll discover and learn about native plants and animals that call the Hill Country their home. Just imaginging it makes the stress melt away!

STROLL EXHIBITS AT THE MUSEUM OF WESTERN ART
If you’re even remotely interested in the history of the Wild West, you do not want to miss out on the Museum of Western Art. Some of the finest artwork ever inspired by the American West can be found within these walls, as well as an ever-rotating selection of temporary exhibits. Keep an eye out for reoccurring events such as art classes and Family Free Days for Kerr County Residents.

SOAK IN THE MAJESTY OF ARCADIA LIVE
In this age of streaming and watching everything at home, there’s something special about historic theaters. Not only do they offer a communal experience, but their detailed architecture speaks to the belief that the arts are important and should be treated with the utmost respect. Built in 1926, the Arcadia Live in Kerrville is still going strong. These days, the theater serves as home for live music, community events, and screenings of classic films. Occasionally, the talent from films have been known to attend the events, as they did with the recent screening of Napoleon Dynamite, which included a conversation with the lead actors.

FIND A NOVELTY AT GIBSON’S DISCOUNT CENTER
We know what you’re thinking. What’s so special about a discount store? The truth is that Gibson’s Discount Center is no ordinary discount store. It’s a blast from the past—the ‘60s, to be precise—which is apparent not only by the store’s vintage architecture, but by the personal, non-corporate approach to doing business.
Make your way past the metal dinosaur in the front and you’ll find an abundance of diverse essentials. We don’t have enough room to write about all of them, but expect to find goods such as footwear, novelties like vintage toys and candy, tools, and even automotive supplies.

SIP ON WINE IN THE HILL COUNTRY
Kerrville is proud to be home to several gorgeous wineries. Kerrville Hills Winery serves handcrafted, award-winning wines in a historic ranch house built way back in 1905. At Rivenburgh Wine, you can sample authentic Texas wines from award-winning winemaker, John Rivenburgh. Then you also have Turtle Creek, which has the Turtle Creek Olive & Vines tasting room in downtown Kerrville, as well as a fully explorable Turtle Creek Vineyard further out in the Hill Country. You can’t go wrong with either of these wineries, but you can go right by visiting them both!

SHOP AND DINE IN HISTORIC DOWNTOWN KERRVILLE
Few Texas towns can boast of having all the modern trimmings of diverse shopping options, delicious restaurants, and nightlife spots, while preserving the history of the original buildings and stories. That’s exactly what you get in Downtown Kerrville.
