Morning: Coffee & Conversation
Picture this: you’re walking down Earl Garrett Street in historic downtown Kerrville as the morning sun warms the limestone buildings. The aroma of fresh-roasted coffee draws you to a corner storefront where locals are already gathering, laptops open, conversations flowing. This is PAX Coffee & Goods, and it’s where your Kerrville culinary adventure should begin. Since opening in 2017, PAX has become the kind of place that feels both European and unmistakably Texan. Maybe it’s the top-of-the-line La Marzocco espresso machine behind the bar, or maybe it’s the warm, friendly service that makes you feel like a regular even on your first visit. Either way, you’ll want to try their signature drink, “The Kervillian”, a brilliant concoction of chai, espresso, chocolate, and cinnamon that somehow captures the spirit of Hill Country mornings in a single cup. If cold brew is more your speed, order the Day and Night with vanilla and caramel, topped with cream. Pair it with one of their beloved scones or a grilled sandwich if you’re settling in to work.

Brunch: Elevate Your Late Morning
If you’re looking for something truly memorable for brunch (maybe it’s a special occasion, or maybe you just want to feel fancy on a Saturday), you need to make a reservation at The Fancy Finch Tea Cottage. Located just outside Kerrville in nearby Ingram, this charming spot was born from a love affair with British tea culture during the owners’ four years living in England. The Fancy Finch offers the full traditional British afternoon tea experience: delicate finger sandwiches, warm scones with jam and cream, and a selection of petite sweets that look almost too beautiful to eat. Choose from their curated tea selection, hot or iced, and settle into the antique-filled cottage where classical music sets the perfect tone. This is the kind of place where time slows down, where conversation deepens, where you remember why meals with friends matter so much.

Midday Flavors or Evening Delights
There’s a story about Pint & Plow that tells you everything you need to know. During the 2021 winter storms, when water became scarce, they opened their doors and provided safe drinking water to the community. That’s not marketing, that’s character. Located at 332 Clay Street, Pint & Plow has been Kerrville’s gathering place since 2016, serving house-brewed craft beers, fresh food, and organic coffee. Their Tchoupitoulas IPA pays homage to Kerrville history (that’s what Sidney Baker Street was called until 1918), and the Lipan Apache collaboration brew honors local heritage. The farm-to-table menu features pork street tacos, a killer Reuben, and the popular “Pizza for Two” special with salad and beer. The outdoor seating is expansive and welcomes both kids and dogs. This is where locals linger and community happens.
Cafe at the Ridge, located at 13439 S Ranch Road 783, isn’t just about the food, though the food is excellent. It’s about the whole experience: the beautiful garden setting, the adjacent nursery, the Wild Flour Bakery, the boutique gift shop, and weekly live music. It’s a destination. Since opening in 2011, Cafe at the Ridge has been serving made-from-scratch Hill Country cuisine using fresh, local ingredients. The menu reads like a love letter to Texas comfort food done right. Start with the locally famous Steakhouse Deviled Eggs with bacon, blue cheese, and green onions. The Texas Salad with Salmon brings fresh ingredients together beautifully. Then there’s the chicken fried steak, the Cowboy Burger with bold southern flair, and the Beef Marsala with grilled beef tenderloin, mushrooms, onions, and Marsala wine. The Pasta Primavera showcases the chef’s lighter touch with colorful sautéed vegetables over linguine. The outdoor seating in the garden setting is magical, surrounded by mature landscaping and the peaceful energy of The Ridge Marketplace.
Billy Gene’s Restaurant sits on the banks of the Guadalupe River at 1489 Junction Highway, and it’s been voted Best All-Around Food in Kerrville for the last decade. The chicken fried steak has won awards since 2007, and one bite tells you why. Sit on the riverside patio with a cold beer or glass of wine while your server brings out Hill Country perfection: fried catfish, old-fashioned meatloaf, pork chops, and fresh chicken entrees. Start with the Tater Kegs (crispy potato barrels that are basically happiness in fried form), then move on to whatever sounds good. The large, gorgeous salads surprise people who come expecting only heavy comfort food. The pet-friendly patio overlooks the Guadalupe, and the turtle cheesecake and white chocolate macadamia nut cookies make the perfect sweet finish.
More Mid-day & Evening Options: Looking for more dining option?
Francisco’s Restaurant serves homestyle Mexican food and family recipes in downtown since 1981.
Rails Cafe brings Hill Country steaks, seafood, and scratch-made comfort food to the historic train depot on Water Street.
Copper Pot in nearby Ingram serves scratch-made breakfast and lunch with chef Chicho’s fresh, stunning dishes.

Afternoon: Wine & Beer Exploration
Grape Juice at 623 Water Street makes wine discovery feel like an adventure. When Texas Monthly and The New York Times both take notice, you know something special is happening. The wine racks tell their own story with sections called “Sanity by the Glass,” “Back Porch Sippin’ Wine,” and “Not Your Average Bottle of Wine.” The staff is passionate about helping you discover what you actually enjoy, and their 20-tap selection includes excellent local Texas brews. The food menu changes daily. The venison chili showcases wild game from local ranches, and the antelope sliders and quail tacos are pure Hill Country. The sweet heat dip with chips is addictive. The loft-like space creates intimate corners throughout, and the outdoor patio brings downtown energy. During the 2025 floods, they became a resource hub for the community. Under new ownership, they’re carrying forward that legacy.
When you visit Kerrville Hills Winery at The Hill at Schreiner University (2100 E Main Street), you’re tasting the work of renowned winemaker John Rivenburgh, who’s been crafting 100% Texas wines since 2008. The tasting room occupies the historic 1905 Weston Home, and out front, a young vineyard of Grenache, Tannat, and Bourboulenc grapes is taking root. John’s philosophy is refreshingly straightforward: handcrafted, small-batch wines made from high-quality Texas grapes using traditional winemaking methods. You’ll sample whites like Picpoul Blanc and creative Roussanne blends, alongside reds featuring Sangiovese, Mourvèdre, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The tasting experience takes you through the different rooms of the historic home, where you might find yourself by the fireplace with a glass of something exceptional. What I love is John’s commitment to accessibility, he offers simply named “White Wine” and “Red Wine” at price points that rival out-of-state grocery store wines, proving that 100% Texas wine doesn’t have to break the bank.
Turtle Creek Olives & Vines and Vineyard
Turtle Creek offers two distinct experiences, both worth your time. The downtown tasting room at 211 Earl Garrett Street occupies one of Kerrville’s most storied buildings—constructed in 1890 as a Masonic Lodge, it later became Kerrville’s post office under Florence Butt, mother of HEB founders Howard and Charles Butt. Today, it’s an eclectic and moody wine bar with taxidermy and a large moose over the bar. Here you’ll find rare and worldly wines alongside Turtle Creek’s 100% Texas estate-grown wines and artisanal extra virgin olive oils, often accompanied by live music. For the full estate experience, head to the vineyard location at 183 Fall Creek Road East. Sit outdoors with a glass of wine overlooking Turtle Creek, surrounded by actual vineyards, with live music drifting across the water. You can walk down to the creek between glasses. The setting is unmatched.
